Full Moon – Corn Moon

Full Moon – Corn Moon

Corn Moon!!

As is true of all Full Moons, we are being challenged to find a balance between the qualities of the two signs involved. This Full Moon has us dealing with the qualities of Virgo and Pisces. Virgo is an earth sign with keywords such as practical, analytic, organized, humble, and physical health. Pisces is a water sign associated with compassion, emotions, intuition, and our psychological health. However, Full Moon’s often bring out the shadow or lower expressions of the signs, such as perfectionism and criticalness for Virgo and dependency and victimization for Pisces.

So, starting around the 5th of September, a calmer, more peaceful energy will take over. This shift in focus from Leo energy to Virgo energy will be present for the entire month of September. As we all know, during the last two months, we have all been under the strong influence of a lot of dramatic Leo energy, including the Eclipse season in August. The powerful, fiery Leo energy that has been swirling around us (and sometimes within us) has been draining and oftentimes confusing. A dose of Piscean compassion will go a long way toward healing, but so, too, will be a shift toward getting down to work.

Often, the September Moon is also called the Harvest Moon, but this year the Harvest Moon occurs in October. The Harvest Moon is the Moon that falls nearest the autumnal equinox; this full Moon provides the most light at the time when it’s needed most—to complete the harvest!

Some other facts about this Moon;

The September full Moon is usually known as the Full Corn Moon because it traditionally corresponds with the time of harvesting corn. It is also called the Barley Moon because this is the time to harvest and thresh ripened barley.

Some other traditional September Full Moon names used by Native Americans include:

  • Moon When the Plums Are Scarlet” by the Lakota Sioux Native Americans.
  • Moon When the Deer Paw the Earth” by the Omaha Native Americans.
  • Moon When the Calves Grow Hair” by the Sioux Native Americans
